For 18-year-old Karl Taylor, going out to the bars with friends doesn't require a fake ID.
Thanks to an exemption from Iowa City's ordinance banning people yoiunger than 19 in bars after 10 p.m., Taylor can use his government ID to legally enter such establishments as the Formosa, 241 E. College St., even after the restaurant and sake bar's kitchen has stopped serving food.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - Federal immigration agents raided a northeastern Iowa meat processing plant Monday, arresting more than 300 people and housing many of them at a converted fairgrounds.
The raid of the Agriprocessors Inc. plant in Postville was the largest in state history and had been planned for months, said U.S. Attorney Matt M. Dummermuth.

As the nursing crisis continues in Iowa, Gov. Chet Culver will sign a bill that sets aside $5.2 million specifically for nurses' wages.
