The sport of disc golf has increased in popularity in the ten years Ames has had recreational courses. Disc golf is played much like traditional golf, but instead of using balls and clubs, the player uses a flying disc or Frisbee. It is popular with all age groups, but mostly among college students.

It's traditional this time of year, when many of you are about to leave the comforting embrace of the university community and head off into what we euphemistically call the "real world," for those of us with more than 21 or 22 years under our belts (or wherever we keep them - pesky things, those years, which is probably something you should remember but no doubt won't, human beings being what they are) to offer some glimmerings of advice.

Four years ago, I wrote in The Surveyor, my high-school newspaper, of my time spent at George Washington Senior High School. I remembered fondly the teachers, peers, and experiences of my high school career.
Don't expect the same in this column.

A piece of artwork does more than fill an empty wall. Whether it's in a home or a museum, worth $100 or $10,000, original art means different things depending on the person. Art might serve as a cultural memento from worldly travels. It can decorate someone's private home or rest on display for the public to view in gallery halls.

I am not going to lie to you, I was not excited for Iron Man. In fact, I was dreading seeing it. "Another crappy superhero movie, just what I need," was one of the thoughts going through my head. I hadn't seen a good traditional superhero movie since Spider-Man 2 and had since lost faith in the genre.

The latest research suggests that students should be wary about which plastic water bottles they drink out of. The dangerous chemical bisphenol A can be found in water bottles sold across campus, including Willy's Hawkshop in the University Center.

The recent school shootings across the country have brought about many questions about school security. If the students cannot be protected by the university, do they have the right to protect themselves?

I asked myself the other day, why don't more kids my age own a Harley-Davidson motorcycle? Are they just too expensive? Does nobody my age know where to buy one? Or do people just stereotype them as being an older generation bike?

It is easy to get caught up in daydreams of the ideal summer day when you are buckling under the pressure of too many finals and desperate for an escape from school. But when the final books are returned and last suitcases are packed, you are usually greeted with the reality that you will be holding down at least a couple jobs this summer in a frantic scramble to pay next semester's tuition.

It's sour grapes to complain about a campuswide vote fairly lost. It's a journalistic prerequisite to dissect a referendum that was done without integrity. Since the Board of Regents approved the student fee increase, it's crucial that we're vigilant about dissecting the latter.

After finishing unloading the contents of my mom's Honda CR-V into my old RCA dorm room before my freshman year, my parents sent me on my way somewhat nonchalantly and quietly cheered their way back to the Twin Cities as they celebrated finally completing their 31-year sentence of having kids in their home.

Rich acoustic sounds resonated across campus as the UUB Coffeehouse hosted three bands Wednesday evening: Hartfelt Sorrow, Swizzle Tree and Lucky Boys Confusion. The bands played various original pieces behind the University Union in the free speech area.
A group of more than 200 people - students, faculty members, area residents and band groupies alike - gathered to enjoy the music and refreshments.

This is an article about my penis; my dong, my member, my frank and beans. Because of censorship and not to upset too many readers, I will refer to my penis by its nickname for the rest of this article. That nickname is President George.
George first came into power about eight years ago.

The spotlight of Drake University Athletics shone on Mark Phelps as he was introduced to a packed Levitt Hall as the new men's head basketball coach.
At last Monday's press conference, Athletic Director Sandy Hatfield Clubb made it clear that Phelps was the man for the job and that he fit all the requirements that the Drake administration was looking for in the person to lead the program.

One week shy of Earth Day, the Stalnaker Executive Council decided to abolish the recycling program. This wouldn't be such a big deal if they had a reason for it, but upon asking members of the EC, I found that they didn't. Not only is this a serious breach of the responsibilities of the EC, what kind of example does this set?
When I asked members of the EC why they stopped doing recycling, I got long winded answers about how it took too long, and it was too hard to separate the recycling, which is basically just laziness in so many words.

With the 60th anniversary of the State of Israel's founding coming on May 14, it is essential to remind ourselves of the situation in the Middle East, which seems to ebb and flow toward peaceful resolution every day. Our consciences - collective and individual - demand that we pay attention to the world around us and demand action for change.
