Bleam, Szeluga win UISG election
Carla Keppler - The Daily Iowan

"We ran a really good run," she said. "It's a disappointment, but either way, it was a great experience."
Vernon Jackson, another presidential aspirant, said the only thing that disappointed him was his belief that the VIP platform fails to align with UI student needs.
Jackson's Student Power Party was eliminated in the first round of the runoff.
"I feel all parties put forth an excellent effort," he said. "The VIP just had a good number of insiders who knew how to campaign well and were well-funded. They deserved to win."
As the winner of a nursing-senator position and member of the Dream Team ticket, a teary-eyed Molly Djuric also expressed dissatisfaction about the outcome of the election but noted her enthusiasm of her new role on campus.
"I'm excited to represent the College of Nursing," she said. "I just want to make sure their voices are heard."
The reaction from Alan Cosby, UISG presidential candidate and leader of the Dream Team, leaned in a slightly different direction.
"I'm not disappointed [with the results]," he said. "Tonight we'll go to sleep and feel like we did everything we could; we can't do anything pass that."
Though his days in UISG are over, he said, he hopes to remain active in UI student life.
Current UISG President Barrett Anderson will pass the torch to Bleam at next week's UISG meeting and hopes for a successful year under the new leadership.
"It's a tough job to represent the student body," he said. "I expect they'll do a fine job."
The Student Elections Board will review campaign budgets and violations of the parties on March 9. An open forum is set for March 12 to solicit feedback on this year's election process.

It's good to see that the one party that left my playbook at home is the one that won.
The curse of the insiders is finally broken, and never have there been two better candidates to do it. (Continued…)

Karl,
The VIP party did use your playbook man, even I know that. They spent almost 15K on the elections, hence the review by the SEB. Their platform seems pretty week too, and got votes by making promises they won't keep. (Continued…)

They won because of their tshirts. They were the only group really advertising.

Thank you relly for making my point, UISG is a joke and really has no power. Half the time it seems like they are pulling stunts and getting nothing done. (Continued…)

The energy drinks were handed out two (2) nights... they were all donated and reported to the SEB as "In-Kind Donations" on our financial disclosure forms. (Continued…)

VIP,
You tell me how Anderson is a lame-duck president. HE DID START NITE RIDE, its a fact and that is how it is reported in the DI. And his "Unconstitutional appointees" were the ones actually running SEB, and allowed elections to start on time. (Continued…)

I would urge you to go to tomorrow night's Student Assembly meeting, at 6:30 pm in the West Atrium of Papajohn Business Building. When you get there, you can ask around to the current UISG senators and see just exactly what they think of Barrett Anderson. (Continued…)
